My 2022 Revelation!

Many of us tend to strive to do more so we can get more done. We can feel like we are not getting as much done as we want and much of the time feel like we are behind the eight-ball striving to just keep our heads above water. If only I could do this or that. It’s as if the only thing that gets done is the ‘to-do’ list just gets longer and longer. And the feeling of overwhelm can keep us paralyzed. If only we can ‘do more’, that’ll fix it. At least that is what we think at times and that may not always be the answer.

As I pause to reflect on 2022 and make the list of my successes, I’m a bit surprised by how much I’ve achieved this year. How did I get so much accomplished? Then I wondered why I enjoy New Year’s Eve so much. Then I realized it’s one of my favorite days of the year. My other favorite days are my birthday, Thanksgiving, and New Year’s Day. Those are specific days that I consciously take the time to pause, reflect, and think which helps me to become more self-aware. I contemplate the good things that have happened, and my list of gratitude, along with deciding on my goals for the future. I treasure those days and I am more aware than ever how valuable these days are for my success.

What if I took more time than just those four days to think about things? I’ve done more of that this year than I ever have and that is a success in itself! I believe I’ve accomplished more because of becoming more self-aware. I stopped to think about what I’m thinking, reflected, and become more self-aware and ta-da, I found out that I use my energy in a more focused way. One of my successes in using my energy in a more focused and intentional way is by writing and publishing blogs. And to my surprise, this is my 50th blog since I began writing in August of this year.

Instead of doing, doing, doing, and feeling like you are all over the place, what would it feel like if you could be more focused and eliminate a lot of extra stuff you don’t have to waste your time and energy on? If you can use your time to be self-aware, that can give you the energy to focus on what matters to you. Along with this, when you know and understand your core values, you are more intentional about the tasks that you choose, and you can be confident in deciding what you need to say no to.

Whether you take the time to become more self-aware and understand your core values regularly or on special days, I encourage you to do it. It is an investment that will be well worth it. You might be surprised that you can do less and get more done too!
