BREAKING BREAD TOGETHER

In this incredible journey that I’m currently on, I often take time to realize how far I’ve come, how much I’ve learned, and how good God has been to me despite myself. I’m reminded regularly that I know that it’s not by accident that I’m now journaling online with “Karen’s Noggin’ 🧠 Nuggets”. With God providing the titles and resources for my material, I’m blessed to be able to use my God-given gift to put them all together for my readers.

There are a lot of other things that are not an accident either. Seven years ago this fall, in fact, October 3, 2015, I attended the ribbon-cutting event for the newly expanded and remodeled Science Center at Carthage College in my hometown of Kenosha, Wisconsin. I was excited and eager to see the changes and improvements to the building where my father taught Chemistry for 32 years. Times with Dad at Carthage are great memories for me. That will be for another blog.

I was so impressed by the new Science Center. It is truly incredible and all I could think about when I toured it was how Dad would just love it. I was eager to introduce myself to the Project Manager on this massive project and congratulate him on a job well done. I met him and his wife that day and only God knew what a journey was about to begin for my husband and me with this couple.

Come to find out, I went to high school with the wife of this couple and we graduated together even though we didn’t know each other. Amazing! The four of us went to my friend’s and my 35th class reunion together in the summer of 2016 and then we all began to get together for dinner occasionally.

We quickly realized we enjoy our time together and trying new restaurants was a great reason to get together even if we traveled a bit to get there.

The habit and love of me taking photos of our meals came with me during our dinners together. Not at first though. I had to wait until we had a few meals together before I start snapping photos of everyone’s food. This habit has paid off nicely since there are many times we’ll forget what we ate at a certain restaurant and when we were there.

In 2018 we had discussed taking a trip together to Ireland. That’s a big step since we’ve never traveled overnight with our friends so we decided that maybe we should take a short local trip to see if we can get along for several days. We scheduled a trip to Shipshewana, Indiana for a couple of nights February 15-17, 2019. We had a great time and realized we are compatible and could easily do some more traveling together. And that we did! We continued to travel to various places for dinner and on several trips in the Midwest.

During our most recent trip together we went to dinner at Jack Stack BBQ – Freight House in Kansas City, Missouri. This restaurant was personally recommended to me by David Hawley, Founder, and Owner of Arabia Steamboat Museum, Kansas City, Missouri. The decision to ask David (after our tour, of course) for a recommendation for the best BBQ in Kansas City was a good move on my part. Once we arrived at Jack Stack’s we knew we made the right decision for our first dinner in Kansas City on Tuesday, September 6, 2022. With all the great options, my husband and I ordered Jack’s Best to share and so did our friends. Jack’s Best is an amazing meal consisting of One Crown Prime Beef Rib, Baby Back Ribs, and Beef Burnt Ends. WOW! During our amazing dinner, I thought to myself, boy we should keep track of these amazing places we go to and put them in blogs and not just on my phone with photos of the meals. I shared my idea of making a list of our Top 10 meals with my husband and friends over that outstanding dinner. My girlfriend came up with some names and from that moment on we brainstormed and decided I can create the blogs for what we love to do so we can share our experiences and love of food with others.

This is what I love about having ADHD. Creativity is my friend and the ideas that I’m given and the motivation to move forward with them are what makes me different, and unique and keeps life exciting. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

The Traveling Taste Buddies are now born and in the future “Karen’s Noggin’ 🧠 Nuggets”, I will share our Top 10 restaurants that we have dined with our friends along with our reviews as we have enjoyed many adventures of Breaking Bread Together!
